Cover produced for the 50th Anniversary of the Russian Convoy PQ17. Cover depicts Convoy PQ under attack from HE 111s and JU88s on 5th July, it also depicts HE115 sinking American Liberty ship Christopher Newport, a merchantman sinking after being torpedoed and a u-boat captain searching for his next target.
Cover bears 1990 gallantry DSC / DSM stamp cancelled with BFPS 2310 for the 50th Anniversary of PQ17.
Cover has been flown in VC10 of 10 Squadron from RAF Brize Norton to Keflavik airport and then over the Reaches where Convoy PQ17 assembled for its attempted passage to Archangel on 27th June 1942. The flight continued to Edmonton International Airport Canada and then returned to RAF Brize Norton.
