JS(AC)91a RAF cover dual numbered AF16 as part of the Airborne Forces mini-series. The cover commemorates Operation Manna the invasion of Greece in 1944 and Operation Dargoon the invasion of Southern France in 1944 both of which involved in the Airborne Forces.
The cover artwork shows 4 PARA dropping on Megara airfield in Greece on 12 October 1944 and street fighting in Athens. Below gliders are shown landing in Southern France on the 15 August 1944, which was to act as a second front. The operation was a complete success and encountered little opposition.
The cover bears 25p definitive stamp cancelled with BFPS 2403 postmark for Operation Dragoon Invasion of Southern France dated 15 August 1994 the 50th anniversary. The cover has been flown in Hercules XV222 from RAF Lyneham over Southern France en route to RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus and then on to Adana in Turkey and then overflying Greece on the way back to RAF Lyneham.
