Lest We Forget 1939 Atlantic Star Millennium Official FDC
Cover commemorating the Outbreak of WWWII in 1939 and showing the first Atlantic Convoy with coastal command escort, Bomber Command Wellingtons being hit by the German Defences over Heligoland Bight and German Battleship Graf Spee scuttled outside Montevideo.
Depicts the Atlantic star campaign medal with Air Crew Europe Clasp which were awared for service in the Royal Navy for six month's service between 3rd Seprember 1939 and 8th May 1945 in the Atlantic or home waters and to personnel employed in the convoys to North Russia and the South Atlantic. Merchant Navy Personnel also qualified as did RAF and Army (air crews and maritime gunners).Entitlement to the France and Germant or Aircrew Europe stars was denoted by clasps to that effect if the Atlantic Star was previously awarded.
Cover bears full set of millenium stamps and is cancelled on first day of issue 05.10.99 which was the 60th Anniversary of the Start of World War II
Cover has been flown in Hercules of 30 Squadorn on Operation Palestine Support from RAF Lyneham to RAF Bruggen.
