Lest We Forget 1940 the 1939-1945 Star Millennium Official FDC
Cover was produced in 1999 to commemorate the events of 1940. Cover depicts the evacuation of Dunkirk, Adlertag with Hurricanes of No 79 Squadron attacking bombers of Luftflotten on 13th August 1940 and the beginning of the Blitz. Cover also depicts the 1939-45 Star with Battle of Britain Clasp.
This was awarded to personnel who had completed 6 months service in specified operational commands overseas, between 3rd September 1939 and 15th August 1945, although in certain cases the minimum period was shortened. Any service curtailed by death, injury or capture also qualified as did he award of a decoration or a mention in despatched. Entitlement to the Battle of Brirain clasp was restricted to aircrew for action during the Battle.
Cover bears full set of Millennium stamps which have been cancelled on first day of issue with 58th Anniversary Battle of Britain Whitehall postmark 2.11.99.
Cover has been flown on Operation Palatine Support and flown in Hercules of No 30 Squadron from RAF Lyneham to RAF Bruggen and then to Split from where it was returned to Lyneham.
