Lest We Forget 1945 Defence Medal Millennium Official FDC
Cover commemorating some of the vital roles played by women during WWII, including manning coastal guns during V-1 bomb attacks, aircraft mechanics shown here servicing a Hawker Tempest of No 3 Squadron in Invasion markings and as emergency rescuers with the Red Cross and St John's.
The covers shows the WWII Defence Medal which wa awarded to service personnel for three years' service at home or six months' service overseas in territories subjected to air attack or otherwise closely threatened. Personnel of Anti-Aircraft command, RAF ground crews, Dominion forces stationed in the UK, the Home Guard, Civil Defence, National Fire Service and many other civilian units qualified for the medal.
Cover bears full set of millenium stamps and is cancelled on first day of issue 06.06.00 which was the 58th Anniversary of The V1 and V2 Assaults on London.
Cover was flown in HS125 of 32 The Royal Squadron from Copenhagen to RAF Northolt
