Lest We Forget 1954 Africa General Service Medal Millennium Official FDC
Cover commemorating events of the Kenya Emergency with the uprising of the Mau Mau, showing a Vickers Valetta near Kilmanjaro, the 1st Devons in the Forest during the Mau Mau Campaign and Lincolns of No 61 Squadron bombing Mau Mau positions.
The cover shows the Africa General Service Medal with Kenya Clasp which was awarded for minor campaigns in Africa between 1902 and 1956. The medal was never awarded without a clasp. Awarded in 1955 with the clasp KENYA to troops and others who had taken part in the operation against the Mau Mau in the colony of Kenya. The qualifying time for the medal was 91 days
Cover bears full set of millenium stamps & is cancelled on 1st day of issue 03.10.00 which was the 48th Anniversary of the Kenya Emergency.
Cover was flown in a Dakota of South Coast Airways from Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain Open Day Air Display on a special flight to Dartford and then over the Millennium Dome. St Pauls Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace then to Battersea, over Crystal Palace to land back at Biggin Hill
