SP(BB)41 Squadron Leader Stapme Stapleton DFC
Stapleton joined 219 Squadron in October 1939, before converting to Spitfires and joining 603 Squadron in November. In April 1940 he was forced to bale out of his Spitfire after his undercarriage jammed. He scored a number of victories. He was awarded the DFC in November 1940. He later served with Nos 2 and 4 Aircraft Delivery Flight, the MSFU and was a Flight Commander with 257 Squadron. In September 1943 he was posted to Kenley as Sector Gunnery Instructor. In December 1944 he was forced to crash land after his aircraft was damaged and he was takenh PoW.
