The cover artwork by Tony Theobald depicts 9 PARA passing through a German road block near Brelingen 1945, 6th Airbourne troops with Russian troops at Wismar 1945 (being the first Troops to meet up), British airborne troops disembarking from a RAF Shorts Stirling aircraft at Gardemoen Norway to disarm 350,000 German troops and supervise the liberation 11 May 1945. Cover bears the Airborne forces Pegasus logo.
Cover bears 20p Isle of Man 50th Anniversary of VE day stamp which depicts the Aircrew Europe and Atlantic Stars and an Avro Lancaster over a Royal Navy aircraft carrier. Stamp is cancelled on first day of issue 8 May 1995 at Douglas Isle of Man. Cover has been flown from RAF Northolt in a Douglas Dakota ZA947 of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight on the VE-Day commemorative flypast over Buckingham Palace 8th May 1995 where the salute was taken by HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother accompanied by HM The Queen and HRH Princess Margaret.
The Dakota flew in open line astern formation behind the Fairey Swordfish, Taylorcraft Auster, North American Harvard, Fairey Firefly, Bristol Blenheim and Consolidated Catalina; followed by the Avro Lancaster, Boeing B-17 Fortress, North American B-25 Mitchell, De Havilland Mosquito, Lockheed P-38 Lightning, Hawker Hurrican, Gloster Meteor and the Red Arrows.
