Joint Services Charities Consortium 2001 Charity Handover signed cover
To mark the 2001 Handover, it was decided to do things a little differently ? the custom is at each luncheon to pick a cover and have it signed by all the attendees of the luncheon, which results in a keepsake from the handover and serves to remind all those present that covers are the primary element of the fund-raising. Over the years many luncheon specials have been produced and occasionally they filter on to the secondary market. Over the last few years it has been common practise that a few extra have been signed and sold for charity to loyal customers.
In 2001 to mark the disbandment of the Joint Services Charities Consortium and in order to be able to give more customers a chance to own one of these luncheon covers, a special cover was produced which was completely unique produced especially for the hand over using existing Tony Theobald illustrations which have been crafted together to form the artwork. Aircraft depicted on the cover include the SE5A, Hawker Hurricane, Avro Lancaster and Eurofighter. One of our charity labels has been added depicting Bill Randle?s Wellington bomber which has been cancelled with a special cachet for the event. The covers were all flown from RAF Brize Norton by No 10 Squadron on an Air to Air refuelling sortie ? involving Nos 6, 14, 41, and 111 squadrons.
Only 150 covers were produced for the occasion, 100 covers were produced signed as above, with the remainder being signed at the luncheon or not used. Thus this made this cover the lowest produced cover in the JSCC's history.
Signed by signed by the three JSCC Series Producers; Group Captain Bill Randle, Wing Commander Chris Greaves and Squadron Des Hill. Also signed by Tony Theobald, the cover artist, and the certification flap has been signed by Colin Winkworth, the printer.
