Bunny Currant joined the RAF in 1936 and in April 1940 he joined No 605 Squadron. From middle of August onwards he scored a number of victories against the Luftwaffe and quickly rose to be one of the very notable pilots of the period. He appeared briefly as himself in the film "The First of the Few" filmed at Ibsley where he was commanding No 501 Squadron in 1942, and he went on to command the Ibsley Wing. He was also awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre in 1943.
