The painting shows Avro Lancaster 60-M of No 582 Pathfinder Squadron which was the same aircraft Captain Swales went on to win his Victoria Cross in January 1945. Here, the Lancaster is shown overflying the Bedfordshire countryside sometime during the autumn of 1944.

Taken from an original oil painting by Ross Wardle - who used to paint for Matchbox and also a great number of Formula 1 paintings.
