Each photo measures 5" by 7" with a white border on all sides with the signature handsigned on the specially elongated bottom margin. The photograph has been reproduced and then signed by Air Commodore Ellacombe.

The photograph shows English Electric Lightning XG308 in flight. F Mark 1 The designation was applied to the balance of the first order of thirty production aircraft. During development work with the pre-production machines the fin height was increased but in other respects the design was unchanged. Armament was fixed at two Firestreak air-to-air missiles and two 30mm Aden cannon in the nose. The Lightning entered service with 74 Sqn in June 1960.
